Information & Education

Providing useful and practical information through education is a core mandate of the Greater Bobs and Crow Lakes Association.  Given the enormous amount of experience residents have compiled over the decades living on the lakes, it is a treasured source of knowledge to share with others.

E-Socials

The Association has had positive feedback about the format of an E-Social or short for an Educational Social.

Learning in a social and neighbourly setting

People, especially our more "elderly" residents, find it easier and more fun to learn new things in the  convenient and relaxing setting of a neighbour's cottage, local hall or even on the lake.    Meeting one's neighbours at the same time is an added bonus.

Maintaining a cottage especially to owners new to cottage ownership can be frustrating in trying to find the right information, person or agency.   The wealth of knowledge around the lake can bring down this learning curve very quickly.

How do the E-Socials work?

The concept of the E-Social started with a Septic Social.   8-10 people gathered at a nearby neighbour’s cottage for the hour long discussion on the do's and don'ts of septic systems by a local Septic expert.  The Association arranges for the expert and sometimes offers light refreshments to make the event truly social!

The E-Social concept expanded in 2018 to include a Cottage Safety and Security Fair held at the Glendower Hall.

The topics ranged from cottage security with the OPP, radon gas infiltration, ticks and Lyme disease, fire safety and invasive species that were covered in the comfort of the Glendower Hall.  Local service providers also set up "desks" to answer and show off their services.

The Association has offered other E-Socials in the past including a insightful seminar on Cottage Succession which is sponsored by FOCA (Federation of Cottage Associations).   Another past favourite of many is the "Under the Tent" Event with local contractors and businesses.
